The Internet is a valuable resource to keep busy teachers updated with the best practices and resources in teaching mathematics.

NCTM is the National Council of Teachers' of Mathematics.  This site provides research, standards, lessons and more to keep teachers updated with top-notch resources and information.  By joining NCTM, teachers have access to Illuminations, a website dedicated to collecting standards-based mathematics lessons in all grade levels.

General Resources for K-12

National Library of Virtual Manipulatives - this site is an invaluable website that provides virtual manipulatives to engage students in mathematical concepts.  This site is an NSF supported project that began in 1999 to develop a library of uniquely interactive, web-based virtual manipulatives or concept tutorials, mostly in the form of Java applets, for mathematics instruction (K-12 emphasis). The project includes dissemination and extensive internal and external evaluation.

Math Thesaurus is a valuable resource for teaching vocabulary to students.  It is imperative for all students to know and understand the mathematics terminology to apply the mathematics concepts.  This site provides definitions, images, and animations to help all students understand the concepts.

Tennessee Academic Vocabulary - Academic Vocabulary is an initiative of Tennessee's Department of Education.  The goal of this project is to provide teachers a list of common terms or phrases aimed at improving vocabulary development of students in Tennessee.   This site is dedicated to the sixth step in that process by providing a collection of games and activities designed to review and strengthen vocabulary development.
